If you’re in need of another fix of aquatic Lovecraftian gaming, and DREDGE isn’t quite doing it for you, then Luke Muscat (creator of Jetpack Joyride) might have your answer with his upcoming deep sea roguelike in Feed the Deep. But rather than focusing on fishing, Feed The Deep has you, well, feeding the Eldritch creature that lies at the bottom of the ocean.

Inspired by Dome Keeper and Spelunky and launching on August 16 on PC via Steam, Feed the Deep‘s story is a simple one. We’ve begun building floating cities in the ocean, but we didn’t exactly count on the ocean being home to a hungry Lovecraftian behemoth lurking below. As a result, you must feed the creature before it decides to head towards the surface to feed on the populace.

In order to accomplish your mission, you’ll dive into procedurally-generated undersea caves and collect resources that can be traded for upgrades and items on the surface. As you progress, you’ll be exploring increasingly deeper waters, managing dark spaces, limited oxygen, and hostile wildlife. While the horror might not be apparent at first, the thought of becoming trapped underwater as your oxygen levels drop while trying to appease the appetite of an undersea monster seems to go hand in hand with Black Salt Games’ title.
