Partners in life, Marion Cotillard and Guillaume Canet have also carried over their relationship into their careers. Canet, who once starred opposite Cotillard in “Love Me If You Dare” before they were together, has directed the actress in the ensemble drama “Little White Lies” and the gritty ’70s-set “Blood Ties.” Now he’s going to do it again, in a picture that offers another creative pivot for the duo.

Rock ‘n’ Roll” will star both Cotillard and Canet, with the latter playing a version of himself in a story that revolves around an actor who decides to change his life when a younger actress tells him he’s falling down the list of “bangable” actors. Gilles Lellouche, Fanny Ardant, Philippe Lefebvre and Yvan Attal round out the cast for what sounds like a breezy comedy, and one that will hopefully poke a bit of fun at the vanity in the moviemaking industry.

The project will be shopped in the Cannes marketplace next month, and I can’t imagine it won’t attract attention from the usual arthouse players. So let’s hope “Rock ‘n’ Roll” tunes up and goes in front of cameras soon. [Screen Daily]
