Terry and Korvo are back on Earth and happier than ever in the Solar Opposites season 5 trailer. Co-created by Mike McMahan and showrun by him and Josh Bycel, the Hulu animated comedy show revolves around the titular alien family adjusting to their new lives on Earth after the destruction of their planet, frequently conflicting with humanity through their various technology. Led by Dan Stevens, Thomas Middleditch, Sean Giambrone and Mary Mack, Solar Opposites has proven a steady hit for Hulu across its first four seasons.

A few months after the show’s Valentine’s Day special, Hulu has released the official Solar Opposites season 5 trailer.

The trailer, as seen above and revealed at Comic-Con, of which Screen Rant is in attendance, shows Terry and Korvo in the midst of enjoying their honeymoon after getting married in the previous holiday special and the latter actually coming to embrace life on Earth. Meanwhile, Jesse and Yumyulack find themselves at risk of being held back at school, and the surprise return of Alfred Molina’s The Duke, despite his season 2 death.

Solar Opposites Season 5 Is Taking Some Bold Swings (Particularly The Wall)

Much like the show’s Christmas special and subsequent season 3 premiere, Solar Opposites season 5 looks to be primarily picking up the story from the Valentine’s Day special. The season 4 finale notably saw the titular family transform into humans after their extended stay on Earth, only for the holiday episode to subsequently revert them to aliens. Though this may have proven an interesting thread to follow up on, the show’s loose timeline has made this less of an issue.

Solar Opposites Season 4 Recap & Ending Explained: 8 Biggest Story Reveals

Solar Opposites season 4 has finally arrived, and the show replacing Justin Roiland with Dan Stevens as Korvo is only one of many big plot reveals.

While the Solar Opposites season 5 trailer does tease plenty more sci-fi-related hijinks, it also shows McMahan and Bycel are taking some bold swings with some of their characters, particularly those in The Wall. One of the biggest reveals from the trailer is that The Duke is alive following his season 2 death in which he sacrificed himself to allow Cherie the chance to escape from a possum. Given he was killed fairly brutally and left scarred by the explosion, the trailer seems to indicate a full revival, including a lack of scars, seemingly pointing towards a sci-fi explanation for his return.

With The Duke originally serving as the villainous leader of The Wall in the show’s first season, his return in Solar Opposites season 5 is sure to create a major power shift in the ongoing side plot. Season 4 saw Sister Sisto now ruling over The Wall and attempting to use Cherie’s baby to influence the population, but with Cherie successfully getting her daughter back, The Duke’s return could not only give the rebel leader an emotional boon, but also a key ally after his redemptive arc with her in season 2.

Solar Opposites season 5 begins streaming on Hulu on August 12.
