Actor Ralph Fiennes, who portrayed the role of the iconic Lord Voldemort in the highly successful Harry Potter films has revealed that he will be happy if Cillian Murphy takes on the role in the upcoming series. An HBO series based on J.K. Rowling’s books is currently in works at Warner Bros. While there have been no announcements regarding the cast members, rumors online suggest that WB might be eyeing Murphy for the role of Voldemort. However, there is no confirmation yet.
Ralph Fiennes approves Cillian Murphy to play Voldemort in Harry Potter series
Ralph Fiennes was recently a guest on Bravo’s talk show, Watch What Happens Live, where he was asked about his views on Cillian Murphy playing Voldemort.
During the conversation with Andy Cohen, Fiennes appeared all excited and gave his approval on the Oppenheimer actor carrying on his legacy. The Schindler’s List actor told Cohen, “Cillian is a fantastic actor. That’s a wonderful suggestion. I would be all in favor of Cillian. Yeah.”
Warner Bros Discovery announced the Harry Potter TV series in April 2023. Despite rumors flowing that Cillian Murphy is probably in talks to feature in the series as Voldemort, there has been official confirmation from the network.
The global streaming chief of WB, JB Perrette recently also disclosed that the series is currently in the initial stages. Moreover, the casting process for the roles of the golden trio, i.e., Harry, Ron, and Hermione, is ongoing.
While announcing the series in April 2023, HBO & Max Content’s chairman and CEO, Casey Bloys said that the new series will provide Harry Potter lovers “the opportunity to discover Hogwarts in a whole new way.” He further added that the new series will further explore the world of Harry Potter and Hogwarts and bring the books to life.
