Weekend Relaxation

I wrote something different for this first weekend of the month that I was going to post, but thought differently.

Made the decision to be lighter as I do need some downtime from time to time.

Despite the downtime, I still watch programming. Sometimes I can talk about it right away – and sometimes not.

So while handling a car purchase to replace mine that I’ve owned for 25 years and still trying to keep my sanity, while going through the car buying process…I played a little Animal Crossing and later watched a film among other things. What did I watch?

Well it was a rewatch for me and one of the films I first reviewed the year it came out when I was just a fledgling website. Con Air starring Nicolas Cage.

I’ve long toyed with the idea of a couple times a week posting a rewatch of the things a streaming service either says (is new to the site) or is in the Top 10 of current watches on the site. Watching the title regardless of whether it is a truly new movie, but viewing it with new eyes, years later. So I decided to do that with Con Air since it came up in my new are of Hulu.

Now we’ll keep these short, but I seem to remember watching this at a screening in my area that took place in a theater that no longer exists…ahh the memories, but I digress. (I’m good at that)

I remember the film being big bold and loud, but really a great summer film. I’m happy to report, Yes I still feel that way!

Cage is the perfect actor to portray a character that is just misunderstood and wants to do the best, despite being in the worst of circumstances. It’s quick, fast paced, a bit reckless but loaded with talent from top to bottom.

And yes, like that time I saw it in 1997, Steve Buscemi made the hair on my arms stand up yet again as he joined in the chorus of “He’s Got the Whole World In His Hands” with his young companion at the tea party. He was so good at being bad, I hated him to his core at that moment and couldn’t breathe after that singalong ended all these years after seeing it yet again, at least for a little while. And that John Malkovich, I recently rewatched Red (a fabulous film by the way) but his character here is SOOO deliciously different than Red, and so worthy of my loathing, in a good way!

If you want an action packed flight filled with the worst “Cons” that can be transported…Board Con Air and buckle your seatbelt again. It’s still a bumpy ride!

What do you remember about Con Air?

Have you rewatched recently – or watched for the first time?

Let me know.

And don’t forget to … Save Me A Seat.

PS – have a suggestion for something you’ve seen pop up as new or in the Top 10 on on a streaming service throw it out there.
