Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment has selected Dec. 12 as the street date for a full-spread of director Gareth Edwards’ AI sci-fi thriller, The Creator.
The ARR comes in at 74 days and domestic box office receipts — against a report production budget of $80 million (Rebecca Rubin reporting in Variety on Sept. 27, 2023) — came in at $38.9 million.
Planned for physical media distribution are stand-alone DVD and Blu-ray editions, plus a 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray Combo Pack presentation.
This 20th Century Studios production will also have a Nov. 14 VOD (rental and/or sales) window of Nov. 14, which will give the “helper” community a 30-day selling period of their own to supply Blu-ray editions to eager genre fans (slick packaging) who either don’t know or don’t care that what they are purchasing is a knock-off.
The quality of these bootlegged Blu-ray editions will be good since the studio is willingly supplying a pristine master of the film prior to the physical media street date. The “helper” community — just the domestic contingent (forget China, Sri Lanka and other exotic points of origin) — has gotten very good at supplying packaging that can easily fool unsuspecting consumers.
The bonus feature included with The Creator is a feature-length “making of” documentary titled “True Love: Making The Creator.”
