This article covers a developing story. Continue to check back with us as we will be adding more information as it becomes available.

Summary

  • Hannah Waddingham, star of Ted Lasso, is thrilled about the potential spinoff focusing on a Richmond women’s league.
  • In an interview, Waddingham expresses her excitement and reveals that she and Juno Temple couldn’t contain their enthusiasm for the idea.
  • While Waddingham is eager to see Rebecca’s story continue, she acknowledges that if she doesn’t portray the character, Rebecca won’t exist in the spinoff.

Ted Lasso star Hannah Waddingham reveals the Rebecca storyline that has her stoked for a potential spinoff. This past May, Apple TV’s Emmy-winning comedy series wrapped up after an acclaimed three-season run, providing a happy ending for nearly every major character. However, it remains unclear if this is the definitive end of Ted Lasso, or if there will be spinoffs. The Ted Lasso season 3 ending did set up one possible spinoff as Keeley (Juno Temple) suggests an AFC Richmond women’s team to Rebecca.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times conducted before the SAG-AFTRA strike, Waddingham said she is excited about the prospect of a Ted Lasso spinoff focused on a Richmond women’s team:

When Juno [Temple] and I read that, we didn’t know how we wanted to convey our excitement about the potential of that. [In the script] I was meant to look up from the folder and just be like, “Oh, it’s on.” But we couldn’t contain our excitement. So if you look at it, we do have a moment of “Aghhhh!” The hard part is the fact that unless I play her, Rebecca doesn’t exist anymore. And I want to see her through. If you are left at a moment with the character, you want to see them through that moment. Does it work with her and the Dutchman? Does she have a female league? I mean, I hope so! It feels like it’s finished but not finished, because none of our lives are.

More to come…
